“The biggest inland Marina in the Caribbean.”

It's difficult to describe the mix of feelings and emotions that you get when you first enter Cap Cana. The 5 miles of white sand beaches at cap cana are just amazing, sand is so fine and white that you will feel like youre walking on powder. The palm threes are so high and beautiful as the blue sky. Cap Cana beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier 200 ft. from the beach.
The marina is the heart of Cap Cana and when totally finished will be the largest in the carebbean, this 500+ slip marina will accommodate 150+ ft. yachts. Stylish boutiques and colorful restaurants will surround its watery avenues. Vaporetto shuttle boats will carry you back and forth to your destinations. There will be plenty of action and nightlife every night, including a mediterranean style casino and buddha bar.”
Golf at Cap Cana with its three Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses already in use is Punta Espada, with more than 7,000 yards in a par 72 course with 18 holes, of which eight of them are playing directly to the caribbean turqoise waters, with stunning views, more than 3 miles of white-sand beaches. The golf course will challenge players of all levels.'
The hotels at Cap Cana will be “boutique” style hotels; quaint, intimate and luxurious. Beginning with the Altabella Sanctuary Hotel to Jack Nicklaus's first boutique hotel, the golden bear lodge, Cap Cana's hotel facilities will make a statement heard the world over.
Cap Cana is about “family-life.” Imagine being on the balcony of your beach-front residence and waving to your kids as walk on the beach. Imagine yourself pool-side laughing with your closest friends, as the sun sets behind a 300-foot cliff, with the sounds of waves crashing in the background. At Cap Cana, you will meet like-minded individuals from all corners of the world. Give your children and grandchildren the opportunity to meet kids from different parts of the world. Wave to your neighbor and invite them over for a mojito. Cap Cana is all about family.

The Dominican Republic’s reputation as a golf destination began with Pete Dye’s Teeth of the Dog in La Romana, but it might be carried in future years by a boom of development on the island’s east coast. At the forefront are two resorts with magnificent seaside courses.
Most of the direct flights from the eastern United States take less than four hours, making the Punta Espada Golf Course ($160, includes cart, practice balls).
With eight seaside holes, Punta Espada, which opened in 2006, is a beautiful course (par 72 and 7,396 yards from the back tees) that can challenge anything in the West Indies in terms of scenery and playability. Get used to waves crashing in your backswing and trade winds affecting your putts, but wide fairways and greens make it fun from the correct set of tee markers. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it’s being billed as the first of three Golden Bear courses at the monstrous Cap Cana resort and real-estate development that encompasses about 30,000 square acres.
Visit here: Just about any beach along the east coast is a picture of paradise, especially Cap Cana’s Caletón Beach Club. If you’re not playing golf, you should be flopping in the surf, which stays warm in the winter. Teeth of the Dog in La Romana is roughly two hours away and $100 by cab.
Eat here: The food , stick to seafood and Spanish-style dishes, which are OK. The clubhouse at Punta Espada is an exception with a variety of quality selections.
Travel advisory: Many airlines have direct flights. From New York, it’s three hours. Most cab rides will cost less than $30. On arrival, you’ll need your passport, and you’ll be charged a $10 tax. Don’t bother exchanging your dollars for Dominican pesos. | |

Cap Cana Championship:
Final-Round Notebook
PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic -- With his victory Sunday, Mark Wiebe won for the second time in 12 career Champions Tour starts and earns a check for $300,000. Wiebe took 109 starts to achieve the same feat on the PGA TOUR, where he has also notched two wins.
• Mark Wiebe earned 300 Charles Schwab Cup points, the first he's tallied all season, with his win in the Dominican Republic. Bernhard Langer continues to lead the 2008 Schwab Cup race with 851 and Scott Hoch remains in second place with 566. At the end of the official season, the player earning the most points will receive a $1 million annuity.
• Vicente Fernandez celebrated his 62nd birthday in style this weekend with a runner-up finish, his best effort since finishing tied for second at the 2003 Emerald Coast Classic. His 7-under 65 was the lowest round of the day and tied the new course record set by Joe Ozaki in the second round.
• All six Masters champions in the field are headed back to Augusta National next week. Here is how they stacked up at the Punta Espada Golf Club: Craig Stadler tied for third, Bernhard Langer tied for 15th, Tom Watson tied for 15th, Sandy Lyle tied for 25th, Ian Woosnam tied for 56th and Fuzzy Zoeller tied for 66th.
• Craig Stadler's tie for third was his third top-10 of the year after finishing tied for eighth at the Toshiba Classic and tied for ninth at the Ginn Championship. Last year, Stadler only had four top-10s all season.
• After 30 mph winds with higher gusts on Friday, the 77-man field opened with a scoring average of 74.688. Once the winds subsided, the stroke average fell to 71.195 in the second round and 70.896 in the final. The easiest hole of the week was No. 6 which played to a stroke average of 4.628. The hardest hole was No. 10 which played to a stroke average of 4.273.
• Joey Sindelar and Greg Hickman finished tied for 61st and tied for 56th, respectively, in their Champions Tour debuts.
• Two players in the field had notable turnarounds. After opening with 5-over-par 77 (tied for 55th), Joe Ozaki jumped 43 spots in the next two rounds to finish tied for 12th. John Harris opened with a 11-over-par 83 (76), but bounced back with a 5-under-par 67 in the second round and 4-under-par 68 to finish tied for 42nd.
• Open qualifier Gene Jones finished tied for ninth to gain an entry into the FedEx Kinko's Classic in Austin, Texas, on April 28-May 4.
• Bernhard Langer came up short in his bid to become the quickest-ever to $1 million on the Champions Tour. He has now earned $894,627 in seven starts and can match the all-time record of eight events originally established by Hale Irwin (1998) and later equaled by Loren Roberts (2006).
